Kubon: ´I am sure Azubu.Frost will take 1st place , if they don't do bad bans´
We sat down with our League of Legends player Jakub ´Kubon´ Turewicz to talk about the Season 2 finals and all that has surrounded them.

Everything is set for what could be one of the best events in history, the League of Legends Season 2 World Championship Finals, which will kick off in just some minutes at the Galen Center in the beautiful city of Los Angeles in the United States of America. As you all probably know, the tournament features one of the biggest prize pools in eSports history, with the winning team walking out $1,000,000 richer.
Unfortunately though, the Season 2 playoffs, which were supposed to be completed last week, were plagued with technical problems, which made it impossible to finish the 1/4 finals match between
CLG.eu and
World Elite and the semifinals last Saturday, as planned by Riot. Instead, the matches took place ok Monday, with
Azubu.Frost and
Taipei Assassins both making it to the final and decisive game after winning their semifinal matches.
Amidst all of this, we sat down with our very own player
Jakub ´Kubon´ Turewicz to discuss his opinion on various topics regarding Season 2 and his thoughts on the upcoming Season 3. Kubon started out talking about the technical problems in the match between CLG and WE, for which he said that he thinks ¨it was a terrible mistake it shouldn't have happened on a big event like S2 championship. I am sure without this disconnect we could have seen WE in the semifinals instead of CLG.¨
A lot of people have commented saying that the problems derived from the technical problems would have meant no problems for the schedule had Riot Games developed LAN mode for League of Legends. Kubon also went on to comment on that, saying that ¨people are right, LAN mode is necessary for League of Legends. Riot should develop it ,a game like League of Legends won't work without such basic things like LAN mode¨.
Apart from the technical difficulties, we also saw some cheating accusations thrown the way of some teams like Azubu.Frost. Riot investigated into these claims, and decided to later on fine Azubu.Frost with a total of $30,000 for their actions. Cheating should never be a part of such a big event and teams should be able to show some sportsmanship, but when this big amount of money is on the line, teams really should not be able to cheat at all. Kubon seems to share this opinion, ¨of course it was wrong behavior, but Riot could have easily avoided this¨. Regarding the fine to Azubu.Frost, he thinks ¨Riot did correctly with punishment. Disqualification would be too severe of a punishment¨ .
On a different note, the Season 2 Finals have brought us some of the best plays in League of Legends history, raising the bar of what is expected from teams in each game. Raising the bar even higher have been the Asian teams, all of them showing great courage and determination to reach the finals. With both of the finalist being of Asian origin this year, it is safe to say that European teams, and even more so American teams, have a lot of catch up to do if they want to reach the level of Asian teams. Kubon happens to be surprised by the great plays shown at Season 2 Finals, and believes that European teams will sooner rather than later catch up with Asian teams, but does not have many hopes for American teams, ¨I am very positively surprised. The level shown on finals is amazing. We saw a lot of great plays by awesome teams. I think the top European teams can catch up to Asians, but NA teams have no chance¨.
For a lot of us, it seems hard to predict the winner of the Season 2 Finals, so I went ahead and asked Kubon for his thoughts on the matter. He looks pretty convinced of the chances of Azubu.Frost to take 1st place; ¨I am sure Azubu.Frost will take 1st place , if they don't do bad bans. TPA is based mainly on a few champions¨, he said.
Now, before concluding this article, I wanted to ask Kubon about his thoughts for Season 3. Season 3 is expected to be much bigger than Season 2, with teams rumored to receive a hefty amount of money to be shared amongst team members for salary and with a prize pool rumored to be bigger than that of Season 2. All in all, everything is expected to be bigger and better. Unfortunately, only a select few will manage to participate in Season 3, and that is why I asked Kubon if he believes his team has what it takes to qualify for next season, to what he answered pretty confidently; ¨every day we spend a lot of time to train and improve our gameplay, so I think yes, we'll be in the list of teams which will play in season 3¨.
All that remains now is to sit tight and wait and see which team will be crowned as the Season 2 Champions, thus walking home $1,000,000 richer and with the respect of all of the League of Legends fans. We hope you all enjoy the finals, and that enjoyed this article.
