While our Polish warriors were busy winning the League of Legends championship at IEM Singapore over the weekend, sparks flew in the next room as the StarCraft II Grand Finals took place.

 Ju “Sting” Yoon, a Terran player newly signed to team Western Wolves, faced off against Protoss player  Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen in a best-of-five match that went all the way to the fifth game. Sting emerged victorious after both sides played aggressively throughout the entire series. The final match ended with a failed proxy Gateway Zealot rush and Sting’s counter-attack of Marines, Marauders and Siege Tanks.

The win was big for Sting, who hasn’t had a major tournament win prior to last weekend, with the closest achievement being 4^th place at TeamLiquid StarLeague 4 this April. He qualified for the GSL Code A once this year before being knocked out in the first round, and has only made it to qualifiers before and since then.

His opponent in the Grand Finals, however, was a more experienced player, having earned 4^th place or better at 22 tournaments between this year and last. Grubby was also fan favorite, courtesy in part by his popular stream on Twitch.tv.

The Grand Finals wasn’t the only close match. Sting won every round he played by 3-2, beating Zerg player  Jung “YugiOh” Seong Il and both Spanish brothers  Pedro “LucifroN” Moreno Durán (Terran) and  Juan “VortiX” Moreno Durán. As the games progressed, fans watching on Reddit affectionately named him the “3-2 Terran” and later “Tightrope Terran.”

Sting took home $6,500 (€ 5,015) from the tournament.
