Season Two Recap - Part 1: Gameplay Changes
During the following few days we will publish a full recap of Season 2 of League of Legends. The first Part is about Gameplay Changes during this Season, such as visuale upgrades, reworked champions and new features. Part two and three will be a summary of the competitive play in Season 2 and a preview of Season 3 including rewards for Season 2.
Season 2 was full of gameplay changes, new champions, new features, reworks and a brand new map - Dominion. The fast and fun gameplay of Dominion allows to think about new strageties, line ups and some unique items just as "Hextech Sweeper". After the end of Season 1, ranked players got a soft Elo reset. Proplayer's such as ForellenLord climbed up the ladder upto over 3000 Elo.
This season Riot put a lot of effort in blancing champions and items. "Unplayable" champions like Sivir, Katarina and Evelynn, after she lost her stun ability, got reworks and made the more easy and fun to play even in high elo. Akali got a needful nerf and also the “Hextech Gunbalade” and “Will of the Anciest”, which were way too strong on champions like Akali, Mordekaiser or Morgana. All lifesteal items got a little nerf to make them less over powered in late game, but with "Zeke's Herold" we got a good new lifsteal-aura item.
Items just as “Hextrinker” and “Chalice of Harmony” are now not only early game items but can be build in some really great stuff to make them useful in late game.
In the beginning of Season 2 Riot focused on balancing the supports. Soraka got some really hard nerfs and higher cooldowns, because her heal and mana combination was way too strong. Since then, Soraka isn't able to give herself mana and avoid her carry for any harrassing because of the heal nerf. Sona otherwise turned out to be a very strong burst support with her “Poweraccord” and low cooldowns. Also a brand new support joined the league: Lulu, the Fae Sorcress. The little yordle satisfy with her lovely design and her unique abilities - even if she's not as easy to master as usual supports. A Karma rework is currently under construction, but I can tell you: IT WILL BE AWESOME. @RiotGuinsoo is tweeting about the Karma rework regular and it sounds pretty awesome with the ability to knockback - and some testresults were that AP and support Karma is currently quite too strong.
New Summoner Spell - icons, reworked masteries and updated artworks for many champions like Kayle, Sivir, Gankplank or Lux gave LoL a smoother look.
Season 2 brought us a lot of new Champions and Skins. Xerath was the first of 21 Champions released in Pre-Season and Season 2. In total you can now choose between 106 different and unique champions.
Many contest were hold this season, e.g. after New Year's Eve the drawing Contest "Lunar Revel". It is awesome to see how talented League of Legends players are.
In January the “Coloblind Mode” was released, which was a useful innovation for a huge number of players. The Co-op vs. AI Mode got released in January with new bots and a better AI. This mode is available for Summoner's Rift, Dominion and the Twisted Treeline. A popular playmode called ARAM (all mid, all random) got an own map - "Proving Grounds" . This map quite is very popular for a short fun game - even if a classic match making isn't currently available.
We waited really long for it, but it was totally worth it! The full realease of Spectator Mode allows us since April to watch our friends and a variety of suggest ranked games.
Also, on May, Summoner's Rift got a great visuale update with reworked animation of the jungle creeps.
Ever thought "damn, I missclicked, I didn't want to buy this Champion" or "OMG he sucks, dunno why I bought him and maaaaaaan he was so expensive". No Problem, since the release of the Refund feature you can return upto 3 champions.
Riot always tries to improve the community. The report and Tribunal System shall help to remove and ban bad behaving players since Season 1 and since the end of September 2012 you can now be rewarded for being a good player and honorable opponent.
Summoner's Rift is still the most played gamemode, but with the brand new rework of the Twisted Treeline, we got a new intresting alternative. This map was known for its inbalancing, but with unique items, a changed jungle, a new epic monster and a capture feature it turned out to be an exciting and more balanced map.
Stay tuned for part two and three of the full summary of Season 2!
